Crawford Notch is a fabled place. First a route for the Abenaki people, the land's first inhabitants. Then came the Crawford family, the ill-fated Willey family, and countless others. The Saco River flows down through its center, and mountain slopes tower up over it. Looking down the Notch at this high angle gives the sense of what a long, deep valley it really is.
