"Diapensia Lapponica," framed 5x8 inch watercolor and ink painting on paper
Diapensia is one tough little flower. It lives in the alpine zones here in the Northeast and other areas way up in Canada. You can spot it along the high trails of the White Mountain National Forest. That's where I look for it each summer, hoping to spot its delightful white and pale-greenish flowers. It survives the harsh winters, grows incredibly slowly, and is sensitive to climate change. But it carries on, clinging to little patches of soil and bravely pushing its little flowers up toward the sun.
