The Zealand River flows north from a high valley in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. For most of its course it is closed in by forest, but in some places lower down the view opens up to reveal Mount Hale and other surrounding peaks. This was painted from a sketch done onsite on a glorious summer day wading through and sitting on boulders in the river.
