New Hampshire, the Granite State! Yup, there sure is a lot of granite here, and up on Mount Washington in the White Mountains that claim is on display. It comes in the form of boulders, cliffs, formations, and strange curling, curving shelves of rock emerging from the alpine plants. Granted it could be schist, gneiss, migmatite, pegmatite or any number of other minerals you're looking at, but they're all part of the same amazing geological story that formed these mountains. I think of these things as I paint and pay homage to the stones all around us. The more you observe and paint rocks the more color, texture and variety you see.
