Mountain views are grand, but what about the green tunnels between the peaks? Those boggy, soggy places full of growing, tangled life. I love the smell of balsam mixed with mosses and the brief respite from walking on rocks offered by a smooth log bridge over dark waters. Add some slanting afternoon light and it's just like paradise.
