"Crawford Path on Mt Washington," watercolor on paper
The Crawford Path starts about eight miles below this view, wending it's way up through a beautiful stream valley before emerging above treeline. The trail was built in 1819, by Ethan and Abel Crawford, making it the oldest continuously maintained footpath in America.
The weather on New Hampshire's Mount Washington can change in the blink of an eye. As I hiked the Crawford Path on this summer morning Bretton Woods was shining green below me but fog soon rolled in to obliterate the view. It cleared off again to the valley and AMC's Lakes of the Clouds Hut - one of the best days on the range I've ever experienced.
