The rocks along the shores of Appledore Island are rimmed with seaweed where they meet the water. In this intertidal zone, millions of creatures, from crabs and sea stars to barnacles, snails and glass shrimp, make their homes in the ever filling and receding tide pools. It is entrancing to watch the water cover and expose the shores and think of the incredible endurance of these beings living such a challenging environment.
