This scene was painted after a fall hike up North Twin in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. In the valley below all was falling leaves and a gentle rain. Up above the trail grew progressively snowier. The summit was all wind, snow and cloud; a stunning and awe-inspiring space in which to feel the weather's power. I stayed but a few minutes before moving on to South Twin summit, then retreating the way I had come to warmer climes below.
