"False Summit," original landscape oil on panel painting
False summits can be seen in two ways: a misery when you are tired and just want to get to the top; or a blessing that has extended your time on the mountain to enjoy its views. On a muted, still, gray day like this I don't mind the false summits as I slowly walk alone above treeline, admiring the soft greens and rock tones under a flat, pale sky.
