I just love Mount Willard, perched above Crawford Notch in the heart of New Hampshire's White Mountains. I like it so much that I hike and/or run up and down its little 1.6 mile trail once a month. It can get awfully busy up there on nice days, but I will often pick a time mid-week or when the weather isn't great to see if I can have the view all to myself. I have dozens of photos of the view, and used them as inspiration in painting the incredible view out over the Notch. Autumn is probably the most visually spectacular time of the year to go up and see the view. If you catch the foliage at its peak colors the whole valley is aglow with oranges and yellows, dotted with the deep green of fir and spruce. This is one oil on canvas in a four-part series of Mount Willard paintings; one for each season.
