"Mount Willard, Spring," 20x40 inch oil on canvas painting (SOLD)

Early spring on Mount Willard is brief and electric. When the snow finally loosens its grip, the ledges darken with meltwater, and the forest begins to breathe again.

This painting was inspired by that in‑between moment, when winter and spring overlap in Crawford Notch. Low clouds drift across the cliffs, softening the familiar geometry of the rock wall while hints of new growth begin to emerge below. It’s a view many hikers know well, but one that never looks quite the same twice.

I was drawn to the tension in this scene: rugged stone against warm light, movement in the sky against the stillness of the mountain. My goal was not to document the view, but to capture the feeling of standing there. That quiet pause when the season shifts and the mountains seem to wake up.

This is an original, one‑of‑a‑kind oil painting, painted in the studio from field sketches and firsthand experience on the trail. There is no reproduction exactly like it, and once it leaves my studio, it will not be repeated.
