I painted this one out at Cold Brook Falls in Randolph on a chilly fall day. This handsome boulder stood just at the edge of the stream, surrounded by rough walls of rock, moss and ferns. It formed a great puzzle of angles and interlocking shapes with edges both sharp and soft. Sometimes a singular natural object makes the best subject.
