Every really good, pointy rock on the edge of the sea is likely to have a gull or other shore bird on it, keeping watch. I painted this scene during my Artist Residency at the Shoals Marine Lab on Appledore Island, Maine. While seated below this group of rocks, a young gull strolled right up and inspected my painting, making sure I was doing his kin justice.

The Ammonoosuc River passes by down the hill from me, and every section of the river is a delight. Some parts are smooth as the water wends its way around boulders. Other parts are full of cascades.
